When relationships end, your children's wellbeing must be the top priority. Studies show that the faster and more cooperative parents are when making future parenting arrangements, the better the children fare during this major disruption in their lives and beyond.
Each separating family has unique circumstances which require a child focused, tailored plan, including:
enabling the children to spend appropriate and practically thought-out time with each parent daily, during school holidays and on special occasions;
supporting the children’s relationship with both parents and extended family members;
ensuring the right person or people make the major life decisions for the children;
providing for safe and child focused change overs;
protecting the children from abusive behaviour; or
any other of a range of issues which arise after separation
Following separation, parents may need assistance in working these arrangements out. There are a number of options available, from coming to an informal, fluid arrangement, to a parenting plan or obtaining orders from the Court - either by consent or contested hearing.
